The Office of the Retirement Commissioner's 1998/99 Annual Report, tabled in Parliament today, notes that with the change of Government, policy change is still on the horizon.

“The prospect of change only serves to emphasise the merits of private planning and private provision, as one sure way for individuals to gain more control over their well-being in retirement,” Mr Blair said.

Retirement Commissioner seeks employer support in helping employees prepare for retirement

Called Retire at Work, the programme encourages employers to use a specially developed, easy-to-use, video-based seminar to deliver financial planning information in the workplace.

“Planning for retirement is everybody’s business. We want employers to deliver the message because our research shows that employees feel comfortable dealing with retirement issues in the workplace,” said Retirement Commissioner Colin Blair.

ASFONZ is a national, not-for-profit, apolitical membership organisation that represents the interests of employers who offer workplace superannuation, their trustees & members, as well as superannuation industry service providers and professional advisers.

The Retirement Commission regularly presents at the ASFONZ biennial conference.

Retirement Commissioner welcomes additional funding for workplace financial education

Financial literacy means far more than saving for retirement, said Ms Crossan.
“It’s vital that all Kiwis have the skills and knowledge to make informed financial decisions throughout life,” she said.

“Today people are faced with a huge range of financial decisions, from how to manage debt through to home ownership and how to pay for education. They’re also faced with an increasingly complex range of financial products and it can be overwhelming.
