15 February 1999 - Your Retirement Action Planner, the booklet devised to help New Zealanders plan for their retirement, is now live and interactive on the Internet.
The Interactive Action Planner is a state-of-the-art retirement planning tool, helping people see how much even a small savings regime can accumulate to over time.
Retirement Commissioner Colin Blair said that the Interactive Action Planner would appeal to many New Zealanders because it took the stress out of the “number-crunching” side of retirement planning.
“The interactive Action Planner makes it easier, and dare we say it, a lot more fun to plan your retirement,” said Mr Blair.
“While the booklet itself has been a great success, the calculators on the web site will allow people to test out a range of saving and debt-reduction scenarios to find the most appropriate plan to suit their own circumstances,” he said.
Mr Blair said that the web site would not only benefit people starting their retirement plan but also people who already had a plan or were paying off their mortgage.
“People who already have a plan can use the Interactive Action Planner to check if they are on the right track. And, if they have a mortgage and are wanting to pay it off quicker, so they can start a serious retirement savings plan, they can use the calculators to experiment with different repayment and interest rate scenarios,” he said.
The Interactive Action Planner is available at www.retirement.org.nz.
