29 June 2004 - Today the Retirement Commission announced its Sorted website has been visited one million times by New Zealanders getting sorted on money matters.
“One million unique visitor sessions is evidence that the range of information and interactive calculators available on the Sorted website is meeting the needs of many New Zealanders,” said Retirement Commissioner Diana Crossan.
“When we launched Sorted, our objective was to help all New Zealanders make
informed decisions about their personal finances, and with one million unique visitor sessions, we’ve gone a long way to achieve this.”
“The 16 interactive calculators are a key reason Sorted has been so successful,
helping users get a realistic picture of their own financial situation and the options available.
“Over two million calculations have been completed since the site launched in
October 2001,” she said.
Ms Crossan said the easy availability of credit and the resulting temptations to
spend, make it very easy to increase our personal debt. People therefore have to be more financially savvy to manage debt well.
“In these circumstances the key is to understand all the implications of going into debt. New Zealanders have used our online calculators over two million times to help gain that type of understanding,” she said.
Ms Crossan said the Commission was constantly reviewing and adding to its range of services, and to the Sorted website to help as many New Zealanders as possible.
“Two of our latest projects have been particularly successful. Kids & Money,
launched this February to help children learn basic financial skills, has attracted
thousands of visits and over 100,000 games have been completed since its launch.
“60plus, a new section to help people of retirement age identify how to best
manage their nest egg when they finish full time work, was launched in May and has also attracted thousands of visitors.
“We are very proud of Sorted and the extensive information we provide. Visitor
numbers have continued to grow exponentially as we’ve expanded the content, and promoted the website on television and online. We expect to reach the two million mark within the next year,” said Ms Crossan.
The Sorted website has interactive calculators and information for New Zealanders of all ages and occupations, including retirees, employees, children, students, parents, people entering retirement and first-home buyers.
The Retirement Commission launched the Sorted website in October 2001, to
provide free and impartial financial information and tools for New Zealanders of all ages.
