Young people are now required to make financial choices early in life which call for a degree of financial knowledge and skill that most don't have the opportunity to learn at school.
The Retirement Commission is partnering with others to offer new approaches to help young people adapt to the major changes that have occurred over the past few decades so that they have money skills for life.
The Commission has a strong focus on financial education in schools and is a founding sponsor and supporter of Enterprise New Zealand Trust's programme "Pathways to Financial Literacy".
The Commission is also working with the Ministry of Education and other educational organisations to implement a framework so that personal financial education can be taught as part of the New Zealand school curriculum.
